How to DIY a Cupcake Tier

Isn’t that grammar terrible? Do It Yourself A Cupcake Tier? What would my mom think!

But I think in this case, DIY has become a verb basically means “Make yourself”. So, loosely translating, it’d be something like “How to Make Yourself A Cupcake Tier”. Now my mom would be proud. Yay. Haha. I just had to justify myself! Maybe the truth is I just really wanted to use the word DIY…. it conjures up all the right images! ;-)

So, here it is! The DIY Cupcake Stand brought to you by crafty hands of Eunice at dolce.swaymyway.com:

It’s covered in plastic to be grease-free too! *shakes fist at reflection*

I want to make the sides a little thicker though. It will make it more stable. (and then I can put a ribbon around it! shhh ulterior motives!) I have an option to use either Styrofoam or plop 2 more boards underneath to achieve the thickness. What do you think would be better in terms of stability? In terms of the ribbon *cough* I think Styrofoam would do great. But I think it would be kinda flimsy even with the cake board on top…*perfectly shaped brows furrow* – haha

Isn’t the wrapping beeyootiful? Got it at Moof for RM3 per paper. Sigh. The things I do for pretty paper. Such a weakness! I used two sheets FYI.

It was pretty straightforward, but I do recommend getting REAL styrofoam circles for the cupcake tier trunks (the brown section) oh right, pillars! Poles! I always knew I had an extensive vocabulary. Well back to the pillars, I was cheapskate and cut them myself. Not so good, but I had no idea where to buy them. Apparently Art Friend @ The Gardens, Mid Valley has them.

Justice League, assemble! Oops, I mean, get your stuff ready.

Are ya ready kids? AYE AYE CAPT’N.

I thought you’d be! Let me reward you all with a wide smile. *flashes* (white teeth, that is! what were you thinking!?)

Stuff You Need
scissors
glue
blade
cellophane tape
styrofoam rounds
2 sheets of wrapping paper
a roll of plastic
ribbon of your own colour
cake boards of growing sizes, small to big to create the tier (thicker would be better)

How To Make It
1. Wrap the wrapping paper over the cake board. Bow to the bends of a circle and fold it down at the bottom as best as you can. Secure with cellophane tape. Next, cover it with plastic and repeat process.

2. Put glue on the styrofoam and wrap ribbon around. This is your pillar.

3. Assemble the boards & pillars. Either use a glue gun or normal glue. I had 3 pillars.

Hope you had fun making this cupcake tier! or cupcake stand. Have a great day! You must.

Hi Eunice! That’s a great DIY stand you’ve got there. It’s also a “way more cost effective” stand than those you can buy. I like the ribbon on the middle sections.

P.S. you had asked on my blog if I was a TWD’er or daring baker… yes on both counts. Although I didn’t make that french yule log from DB… Yikes, that was way too much work, lol.

    Eunice..

Your cupcake stand, you glue them together? So you cannot reuse them if you want it in different colours loh?

  8. Eunice Says:

Beginner Actually I used masking tape to double it down. I put plastic over the boards so it’s reusable. I didn’t use it in the end though, because my pillars weren’t stable! I cut my own so all senget. My newest one (pix later) are all done proper! Will show you later k?
