Made of Fondant, Japanese Cupcakes.

back to buttercream creed: I suppose timing is a crucial matter in life. You see, last year, I bought the lovely 56 Master Wilton Piping Tip Set. I’d been wanting it for a while. But buying it at THAT very moment was very pivotal in my cupcake making life. See, looking back, it was the day I stopped designing with buttercream. Why? Because I discovered a big bag of fondant.

Made of Fondant, Elmo & Mr Monster Cookie. Sesame Street Cupcakes

Fondant has been amazing to work with. It’s play dough that makes money. It’s neat, it isn’t greasy, and most of all you don’t have to deal with piping bags.

Made of Fondant, Kimono Cupcakes. Aren’t they adorable?

Did I say no piping bags? Maybe I didn’t say it loud enough…Fondant = No Piping Bags!!!

no grease, no changing piping bags (yay!), no mixing colours & having left overs, no waiting for the butter to soften, no piping bags popping on you…

Yes. Isn’t that unbelievable? It’s no wonder then that because Fondant looked so much better, and because I didn’t need to deal with them piping bags, that I gradually shifted my whole focus to fondant. It’s been a lovely time, but also a very time-consuming well, time.

although when using fondant, there are other things to give up – pretty nails.

Roses Minicake & Cupcakes. (There are rewards when your gramma orders from you, you get to experiment!)

And, I also had my Master Wilton Tip Set costing only RM221 and “sen ten only” sitting in my cupboard. I had heart wrenching feelings well up inside, looking at my poor baby, underused and underappreciated.

Made of Fondant, Rich Man’s cupcakes (lol, what a name).

So what, is the purpose of this post, you say? Well, it’s my documentation on getting back to buttercream. And using all the tips of my Master Wilton Piping Set!

(Could the reason half be that all the stores are out of fondant & making my own marshmallow fondant from SCRATCH builds biceps?)

[note: yes I did it - make MMF from scratch - last week! i made the marshmallows, but didn't let them harden. it worked like this: i followed the MM recipe, didn't let it go through the hardening process & followed cakejournal.com's Marshmallow Fondant recipe - since this required melting the MM, I didn't even bother letting it harden! haha. VERY elastic! loved it! you guys should try it too!]

Rose Minicake

And where were we again? Right, my unwavering focus has enabled me to remember haha…the back to buttercream creed!

I pledge allegiance, to my piping tips
Right till the end, when my piping bag rips
To hold, handle and cherish with care
And think of designs
For my cupcakes to wear.

Yeah also. Will. Not. Touch. Fondant. Will only tile 3 designs. Will find perfect buttercream that’s stiff. Will experiment. Will make meringue buttercream.

BTW. I’ve seen some nice grass designs, but I suspect it isn’t in my tip stash. Well I would love to use a tip in my master wilton set – hopefully it’s in there – or else I’ll just drop by ICCA & buy it (haha, said very nonchalantly, since you know…I can drive! :D Yes I got my license last week!)
