Chinese New Year, Farewell Cupcakes + A Cupcake Package from KL to Johor!

Monday, January 12th, 2009

I did three interesting cupcake sets last week. Chinese New Year cupcake theme, Farewell Cupcakes AND for the first time ever, sent a Cupcake Package to another state! It arrived all the way from KL to Muar, Johor!

Farewell Cupcakes
Cupcakes from Kenji to his cousin who’s leaving for New Zealand – that’s why there are 2 cute sheep in the fold. I discussed it with his secretary (LOL) and we decided on some Malaysian and New Zealand things – but mostly Malaysian items she’d miss. Like, food! I had such a fun time making them with my sisters, but the week was really strenuous on my poor soul so poor Kenji’s party waited a little while.

Well I still like to call em my Good Luck Cupcakes. Hehe!

Let me introduce to you Curry Puffs. A favourite Malaysian snack filled with spicey potato & chicken cubes. Unfortunately, these were sweet, made of fondant and tasted nothing like the real thing. ;-)

I used the real technique of folding the sides, just like my gramma taught me on the real thing.

Oranges, with one cut up!

Haha, jam and bread. I think this is so cute!!

Chinese New Year Cupcakes

I loved making all the little emblems of Chinese New Year. How did it get to be 2009 so fast!?

Cupcake Package from Kuala Lumpur to Johor
Thanks Fairuzee! For the first time ever, Dolce Cupcakes made their way across the states from Kuala Lumpur to land in Muar, Johor. According to Fairuzee, who you can see on the chatbox as gee, they were in perfect condition!

I graffiti-sized the box, with notes for the postman, notes for Azam, notes for the birds…no, I didn’t mean that ;)

After this, and much packaging, I’m up and game to make some more cupcake sets to be sent over the seas! Or, over the states of Malaysia :) After all, I got clearance from my Nationwide guys. Thanks Nationwide!

A Peach Wedding Set and A Paintball Theme

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

On the 26th of December, I stood on my feet from 8am to 7pm making two cupcake sets. I’m going to have to do some accounts to see if this is worth my time and aching feet! Here they are though:

01. A Peach Wedding Set, or Two

“Design by Cuppacakes® / www.ilovecuppacakes.com”
Congratulations, Richard & Yvonne!

The set above is for a lovely couple who had their wedding ceremony on the 27th of November. Hey, that’s today! Congrats Richard & Yvonne! I did 15 of these box-of-4 cupcakes. Isn’t the ribbon so pretty? It goes well with the peachy wedding colour theme.

Engagement Cupcakes for Yong’s sister. Congrats as well!

Yong also coincidentally ordered some engagement cupcakes – so to use economies of scale, off went the same thing! I forgot it was ordered in pink & purple, but the colours were really sweet and Yong was great about it :)

She also requested them packaged in maroon ribbon. I added some silver :D Just cause.

02. A Paintball Cupcake Theme
Next up, Yong ALSO ordered Paintball Cupcakes. She’s a gem!

Paintball Cupcakes
Looking dangerously edible, aren’t we?

I wanted to use some of my chocolate truffles to make the paintballs, but I was running short of time so I just used my ready fondant. I don’t recommend eating the colours! Also, I was delayed 15 minutes doing this, so thanks Yong for waiting for me!!!

Paintball Cupcakes
More colours. A little like those marbles I used to play with.

Paintball Cupcakes
Finally! Complete with paintball guns and splattered guys & girls. Messy fun!

And I have never played paintball in my life. Not yet. :)

Cupcake Updake, Cupcate Update

Friday, December 19th, 2008

…in which you witness me trying too hard to rhyme.

I’ve neglected posting up some cupcake themes I’ve had recently. Here are a few backlogs and new ones! I’m not sure if names are allowed, so I’m just gonna omit them. Thank you guys for your orders!

1. A 100 days anniversary gift to Sarah. SO SWEET!! My favourite picture.
Chocolate base, vanilla cream, fondant

2. For a special one’s birthday. AUGH SO SWEET AGAIN! The colours don’t do it justice in the first picture. I’ll upload one I took in the morning that has better colours. like the second picture.
Flavours same as the above.

3. Puppy Themed Cupcakes

– For Chienny my friend! Thank you for another order!
Mocha, Double Chocolate & Coffee Cream (basically playing with coffee + chocolate, no biggy!) on a Moist Chocolate Cupcake Base

3. Disney Cars Themed Cake & Cupcakes
Now this is a sad story. The cake fell apart – like an earthquake – and the whole thing had to be returned. I wept. My heart was heavy. My head fuzzy. But eventually I was alright. Haha.

Lessons learnt:
1. Cut the cake to level it. Don’t “want to give em more cake”. What’s gotta be done’s gotta be done.

2. PUT CREAM WHEN YOU GOTTA. Don’t think “people don’t like cream”. Earthquakes happen mon. Do you prefer that & an all-nighter gone down the drain, or people wiping away your cream?

3. Always have enough or extra fondant. I was working on a budget that day as the store had closed…and it was already 2am. Yup worked on till 6am, became a zombie and lived through camp the next 4 days. Still not recovered. WEEKEND C’MON!

Bummers:
1. Cake was really tasty. Wunna the best ever. Maybe cos I don’t normally try my cakes? But anyhoo! (I’m making Bakerella’s mini cupcake pops with the leftovers!)

2. The design was so cute!!! Augh again. I’m so sorry JC! I really wish I can make it up to ya.

4. Gadgets & Big Boy’s Toys Cupcake Theme
To end on a happier note…Do you see an iPhone, a Toyota, a Laptop, an Arsenal jersey, cookies standing up as letters, AND ALL THAT CRAZY STUFF I CAN’T BELIEVE I DID AT 4AM IN THE MORNING!? Heheh. It was worth it. Thank you Theresa!

Nivea Cupcakes: Take 2

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Wow it’s been a while since I last posted some cupcakes over here. Been distracted with other bakeroos. My header’s tag line is fast becoming a lie. But since I’m a rather truthful chick and I always strive to maintain my integrity…here is something I worked on last month!

“Design by Cuppacakes® / www.ilovecuppacakes.com”
Did I mention that I’m the proud and broke owner of the Wilton 55 Master Piping Tip Set? Yes my first professional job and I already spent what I was supposed to earn! Haha.

But, that’s why I’m beginning to love using buttercream to decorate again. It CAN be neat! Man. The possibilities are endless! *hands itch*

“Design by Cuppacakes® / www.ilovecuppacakes.com”
I loved doing this set!

Now I have a question for the floor. What’s the best tasting buttercream in the known universe?

  • Italian Buttercream (syrup, yolks. creamy & luscious. smooth.)
  • French Style Buttercream (syrup, less yolks. rich & light)
  • Swiss Meringue Buttercream (like italian. lighter)
  • American Buttercream (butter, sugar. versatile, easy.)

What do you think? Or more importantly, what does your heart tastebuds tell you?
