A July ‘11 Update from Eunice!

Dear everyone,

Been away in beeaauuuutiful Bandung, Indonesia and 3 other cities around Southeast Asia for the past month! It’s been a great experience, waking up each day ready for adventure. It’s gooooood to be home in Kuala Lumpur. And now it’s back to baking!

It’s been such a wonderful time since beginning this blog way back in 2007, when I was 16. I’m 20 now! And ready to begin a new adventure with… yes, Cupcakes!

The surprise-adventure is the opening of a lil place sometime soon, it’s a surprise for me! But the wheels are definitely kicking into motion!

Now I’m deciding if I should major in designer cupcakes and cakes, OR miniature bite sized cupcakes with many exciting flavours, OR be a wedding dessert supplier, OR make gluten-free cupcakes!

These thoughts are in a whirl in my head! There are legalities to work hard through. It’s eye opening, and I really want to learn everything I can! All the money nested away from our years of home-baking is going to be used to start up & finance equipment.. And, the best part… Hoping to find girls who won’t mind working hard and dreaming with me!

Well, as I keep on preparing, here’s a hello from us in Bandung, with sugar sweet sunshine shining in! :D

I love these girls! My sisters & cousin, assistants and friends. Between us we’ve made probably a thousand cupcakes! It’s a lot of hard work, but lots of fun times. Much love & appreciation to them!

Happy fourth, those in the US! And have a blessed day everyone else!

Flour Pot Sugar Cookies

The people from the other side of the world say flour (which is only correctly pronounced Flar) as Flower. This cracked me up to no end when I was little. But there is a really spiffy book called Flour Pot Cookies, which is really cool – uses more royal icing deco as opposed to the amazing Lindy Smith’s “Bake Me I’m Yours!” which uses more fondant. Totally beautiful! I bought a few cookie cutters like handbags and shoes to decorate but I didn’t have a chance with these babies. Half went to an order and the other half was eaten before I could decorate. Well at least I’m ready for Christmas’ snowflake cookies! I had such trouble with the beautiful things last year.

Watch this for the recipe, which is pretty close to the one I used. I put 1tsp of cinnamon and no almond extract or salt.

Enjoy! This is a pretty darn good cookie! Use real butter people, real butter only! The other stuff is one molecule away from plastic :)

I’ll have to say, we all need at least one day of rest. PHEW! I’ve been working non-stop this week I needed a day to mentally plop on a sofa and snore my heart and soul out.

Unfortunately, that isn’t happening too soon. But I’ll definitely schedule in a big 2 or 3 hour REST some time this week. Non-optional.

An unusual party happened last week, which happened to be my grandmother’s 80th birthday bash. We had a great time, and that said from the bottom of my being!, and I loved seeing her smile. Priceless. I also did make the cake and cupcakes, pictures of which I will show you later. The theme was purple, being her favourite colour. She even donned a purple kebaya, and I think I should get one of those things myself, being Nyonya. Ahh yes.

Some exciting opportunities coming up. Zipped til they happen!

By the way, I’ve got a class THIS SATURDAY on cupcake decoration! Anyone interested? Please comment and leave your email!

Okay next up, I need to switch hosting or do SOMETHING about my super slow loading blog! Recommendations on hosting providers in Malaysia?

Right now I have a durian butter cake baking in the oven. The smell is unrighteous for 11.44pm!!! Ahh.
